Commentary: 'anye ca bahavaḥ śūrā madarthe tyakta-jīvitāḥ'—Apart from the heroes of my army whose names I have mentioned so far, there are many other great warriors in our forces, such as Bāhlīka, Śalya, Bhagadatta, Jayadratha, etc., who have come here, renouncing all desire for life, for my welfare and to fight on my behalf. They may well die for my victory, but they will never retreat from battle. How can I express my gratitude to them before you? 'nānā-śastra-praharaṇāḥ sarve yuddha-viśāradāḥ'—All these men are adept in wielding various handheld weapons such as swords, maces, tridents, etc., and are also skilled in the use of missiles like arrows, tomaras, and śaktis, which are hurled by hand. They are highly proficient and expert in the arts of warfare as well—how a battle should be fought; in what manner, with what strategies and tactics it should be waged; how an army should be arrayed, and so on.
