भयाद्रणादुपरतंमंस्यन्तेत्वांमहारथाः|येषांत्वंबहुमतोभूत्वायास्यसिलाघवम्||२-३५||
bhayādraṇāduparataṃ maṃsyante tvāṃ mahārathāḥ . yeṣāṃ ca tvaṃ bahumato bhūtvā yāsyasi lāghavam ||2-35||
भयाद्रणादुपरतं: from fear | मंस्यन्ते: will think | त्वां: thee | महारथाः: the great car-warriors | येषां: of whom | च: and | त्वं: thou | बहुमतो: much thought of | भूत्वा: having been | यास्यसि: will receive | लाघवम्: lightness

।।2.35।। येषां  कर्णदुर्योधनादीनां महारथानाम् इतः पूर्वं  त्वं  शूरो वैरी इति  बहुमतो भूत्वा  इदानीं युद्धे समुपस्थिते निवृत्तव्यापारतया  लाघवं  सुग्रहतां  यास्यसि।  ते  महारथाः त्वां भयाद्  युद्धाद्  उपरतं मंस्यन्ते।  शूराणां हि वैरिणां शत्रुभयाद् ऋते बन्धुस्नेहादिना युद्धाद् उपरतिः न उपपद्यते।किं च
2.35 Great warriors like Karna, Duryodhana, etc., hitherto held you in high esteem as a heroic enemy. Now by refraining from battle when it has begun, you will appear to them as despicable and easily defeatable. These great warriors will think of you as withdrawing from battle out of fear. Because turning away from battle does not happen in the case of brave enemies through affection etc., for relatives. It can happen only through fear of enemies. Moreover

।।2.34 2.38।।यद्भयाच्च भवान् युद्धात् निवर्तते (K निवर्तेत) तदेव शतशाखमुपनिपतिष्यति भवत इत्याह अथ चेत्यादि। श्लोकपञ्चकमिदम् अभ्युपगम्यवादरूपमुच्यते ( N उपगम्य) यदि लौकिकेन व्यवहारेणास्ते भवान् तथाप्यवश्यानुष्ठेयमेतत्।
